The tech giant just signed a deal with Reuters to deliver verified news straight from its chatbot.

Next time you ask about news on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or Messenger, you’ll get answers backed by Reuters articles.

No more guessing if the info is reliable.

This move is surprising since Meta has mostly used AI for creative tasks.

Why the sudden shift to serious news?

Especially when Meta has been fighting over paying for news content in places like Canada, where it has blocked access altogether.

Key points:

  • Verified news: Meta’s chatbot will now source news directly from Reuters.

  • Broad reach: Available across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

  • Shift in focus: Moving from creative AI tasks to fact-checked content.

But it’s not without controversy.

Some publishers, like The New York Times, are taking legal action over copyright issues.

Meta is diving into the AI-news world, but on its own terms.
