At ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, that’s exactly what happened.

An intern was fired for “maliciously interfering” with their AI training, sparking rumours of millions in damages.

The incident revolved around Doubao, China’s top ChatGPT-like chatbot.

But ByteDance was quick to clear the air, stating:

  • The damage claims were “exaggerated.”

  • Core AI operations were unaffected.

  • The intern was reported to their university and industry bodies.

Despite the drama, ByteDance is still leading the AI race.

From Doubao to Jimeng, a tool that turns text into video, they’re pushing the limits of what AI can do.

One rogue intern won’t derail their drive to dominate AI.

Apple's Steve Jobs predicted AI's potential 40 years ago, envisioning machines that think like humans.

Jobs spoke at the International Design Conference in 1983 about how studying the human brain could help build better machines.

He highlighted the distinction between human consciousness and machine capabilities, fueling ongoing research in artificial intelligence.

This tweet is from Valerio Capraro. He’s associate professor at Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.

He tweets about a new study that challenges the notion that AI will only deepen inequality, introducing "inverse skill bias" and highlighting AI's potential to reduce bias. However, risks like data monopolies and gender disparities call for urgent policy action.

According to the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, some Apple employees believe that the company is two years behind in artificial intelligence development.

Apple also announced a partnership with OpenAI for ChatGPT integration across the system. You don’t have to use it, but it's available if you want to access additional knowledge.

According to Reuters, Mira Murati, the OpenAI CTO who announced her departure last month, is raising VC funding for a new AI startup.

This startup, which reportedly focuses on building AI products based on proprietary models, could raise more than $100 million in this round.

Perplexity AI has started a new round of fundraising talks, seeking to more than double its valuation by about $9 billion, CNBC confirmed.

Perplexity’s artificial intelligence search engine is trying to chip away at Google’s dominance.
