Anthropic says Claude has been used in work linked to biological weapons, drones, missiles and cyberattacks.
One researcher reportedly used Claude for weeks to plan experiments involving avian flu adaptation.
A Russia-linked hacking group also allegedly used AI across large parts of attacks targeting Ukrainian officials.
OpenAI has added Paul Christiano to its Foundation board, one of the most prominent voices in AI alignment.
Christiano says rapid AI progress could lead to an irreversible loss of human control in the near term.
He will also sit on the committee that helps decide whether OpenAI releases new frontier models.
