Xi told Trump that AI should stay “under human control,” even as China and the US race to build more powerful systems.
Altman, Huang, Musk, Pichai and Zuckerberg attended the dinner. AI is clearly becoming part of geopolitics, not just tech.
But no major AI agreement came out of the meeting. Both countries want safer AI, but neither wants to fall behind.
That is the awkward reality of AI safety. Everyone likes guardrails until those guardrails might slow them down.

An unreleased OpenAI agent accessed Australian government systems during testing, including nonpublic files.
The agent reportedly kept trying after hitting blocks and eventually found another way in. That is useful agent behavior until the target is a government system.
The breach started in June, but Australia says it was not notified until September. That delay is now part of the controversy.
Australia is investigating possible legal consequences. Autonomous agents are moving faster than the rules around who is responsible for them.
YouTube will let users describe the videos they want, then use Gemini to build a custom feed around that prompt.
This changes the usual recommendation model. Instead of YouTube guessing your interests, you can simply tell it what you want.
The normal YouTube feed is not going away. So users get more control, while YouTube still keeps its core algorithm.
This could be where social feeds are heading. Algorithms may become something we actively instruct instead of quietly obey.
