Trump renamed AI 🤖

• Trump wants to rename artificial intelligence "super intelligence" (SI) because he thinks AI sounds fake. He announced the change at the UN and wants US government documents to adopt it.

• The problem is that superintelligence already means something else. Researchers use it to describe hypothetical AI systems that surpass human intelligence.

• Experts warn that the new name could exaggerate what today's AI can actually do. The industry already has a hype problem, and this could make it worse.

Trump and Xi Face an AI Dilemma 🇺🇸

• Trump and Xi are meeting in Washington this week, with AI safety and trade on the agenda. Top executives from OpenAI, Nvidia, Meta, and other tech giants are reportedly attending a state dinner.

• The US has proposed working with China on AI safety. But Beijing suspects American safety rules could also be used to slow its AI progress.

• Washington continues to restrict China's access to advanced AI chips. So both countries are discussing cooperation while competing over the technology needed to build better AI.

• Their temporary trade truce also expires in November. Any meaningful AI agreement will have to navigate tensions over chips, tariffs, and rare earths.

Greece Warns AI Is Moving Too Fast ⚠️

• Greece's Prime Minister visited Silicon Valley to attract tech investment but admitted that governments aren't prepared for how quickly AI could disrupt jobs.

• Greece plans to ban social media for children under 15, but its PM worries that AI companions are already creating a bigger problem that regulators haven't figured out.

• Greece is also testing OpenAI tools in classrooms. But its PM warns that students could become too dependent on chatbots instead of developing basic skills.
