Nvidia is buying Hugging Face for $12.9B, giving it control of one of AI’s biggest developer platforms.
This is Nvidia moving up the stack. Chips made it powerful, but software could make that power harder to escape.
Nvidia says Hugging Face will stay open, but ownership still gives it more influence over where developers build and deploy AI.

OpenAI launched Astra, its most capable model yet, with a big focus on coding, cybersecurity, and computer use.
Astra can reportedly find bugs and develop zero-day exploits, which makes the safety debate much harder to ignore.
It is also harder to monitor because parts of its reasoning can be less visible to researchers.
Then Greg Brockman said he personally thinks AGI may already be here. That is a bold claim, even by OpenAI standards.
The Trump administration filed a brief supporting OpenAI in its copyright fight with The New York Times.
Its argument is that strict copyright limits could slow U.S. AI development and weaken America’s global position.
It also says expensive licensing rules could hurt startups more than Big Tech, since smaller companies have less money to spend on data.
This is not a court ruling, but it shows where the government is leaning when copyright and AI competition collide.
