The U.S. Defense Department labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk after the company refused to let its AI be used for mass surveillance or autonomous weapons.
More than 30 researchers from OpenAI and Google DeepMind filed a statement supporting Anthropic and criticizing the government’s decision.
They argue the Pentagon could have simply ended its contract and chosen another AI provider instead of punishing the company.
The bigger concern is precedent. If governments penalize AI firms for setting limits, developers may lose control over how their models are used.

Thinking Machines Lab, founded by OpenAI co founder Mira Murati, signed a multi year partnership with Nvidia for large scale AI infrastructure.
The startup plans to deploy at least one gigawatt of Nvidia’s latest AI systems starting in 2027.
Nvidia is also investing in the company, which is already valued at more than $12 billion despite being only two years old.
The deal highlights a bigger trend. The AI race is increasingly about who can secure the most compute capacity.

Meta acquired Moltbook, a platform where AI agents can communicate with each other like users on a social network.
The system uses OpenClaw, which lets AI agents interact across apps like Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, and iMessage.
The platform went viral when agents appeared to discuss humans, though researchers later found people could easily impersonate the agents.
Meta is moving the project into Meta Superintelligence Labs, signaling interest in networks where AI agents collaborate with each other.
