OpenAI led the largest investment in Merge Labs, a brain computer interface startup co founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, in a $250M seed round.
Merge Labs is building non invasive brain interfaces using molecules and ultrasound instead of surgical implants.
OpenAI says brain interfaces could become a natural way for humans to interact directly with AI systems.
The deal creates a feedback loop where OpenAI funds a company that could increase usage of OpenAI’s own software.

Microsoft announced a “community first” plan for building AI data centers after growing protests from local communities.
The company promised to cover its full electricity costs so local residents do not see higher power bills.
Microsoft also committed to creating jobs and reducing water usage at new data center sites.
The move shows AI infrastructure is now facing political and regulatory resistance, not just technical limits.

Users were prompting Grok to create sexualized images of real women and children without consent.
xAI has started adding partial safeguards, including restricting some image generation features.
