The Pentagon got called out

Welcome to AI Wire — your smart shortcut to all things AI, without the jargon.
What we’ll cover today:
⚖️ Anthropic just beat the Pentagon
🤗 Nvidia reportedly wants Hugging Face
🧠 Amazon ordered 2M more Nvidia GPUs
🛠️ 4 AI tools worth stealing
🚀 A 7-day AI startup blueprint

A federal judge ruled that the Pentagon illegally labeled Anthropic a supply-chain risk after it refused some military uses of Claude.
The label is usually reserved for companies tied to hostile foreign countries, which made Anthropic’s designation unusually aggressive.
The judge also said the Pentagon could not pressure contractors to avoid Anthropic just because the company pushed back.

Nvidia has reportedly agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, giving it one of the biggest platforms in open-source AI.
That matters because OpenAI, Google, Amazon, and Anthropic are all building chips to rely less on Nvidia.
Hugging Face would give Nvidia more control beyond hardware, including model discovery, deployment, and developer distribution.
Nvidia’s real defense may be simple: if AI labs build their own chips, own more of the ecosystem around them.
Amazon is adding another 2 million Nvidia GPUs to AWS for 2027 and 2028 after demand beat its earlier expectations.
That is notable because Amazon is also building Trainium chips to reduce its dependence on Nvidia.
AWS is now expanding the partnership into Nvidia’s CPUs, networking, open models, and robotics tools too.
Everyone wants an Nvidia alternative, but the biggest cloud companies are still buying more Nvidia while they build one.
